Please Note: The images shown are typical examples of mature adult fish and not necessarily the exact fish in our current stock. Actual fish coloration can vary due to lineage, location, age, and gender. If you would like photos of the fish currently available, you may request them. Please understand that we may not always be able to provide these promptly due to time constraints, and photographing some fish can be challenging.
One of the more popular Apistos, A. agassizii has been selectively bred to produce a multitude of different colour morphs. While still a small fish, these are one of the larger Apistogramma species, with males reaching up to ~3" in length. Their long, teardrop-shaped tails are distinctive among Apistos, and they make an extremely showy centrepiece for small community aquaria. The 'Double Red' morph has deep orange to red finnage, with golds, blues, and even violets in the body pattern.
These are subadults ranging from about1-1.5" long. They are beginning to show sexual dimorphism.
